Social Media Connects Vision Community at International Vision Expo

Norwalk, CT (September 19, 2011) – In an effort to keep attendees up-to-date on the latest show and industry news, International Vision Expo & Conference has developed a strong social media presence. With more than 11,700 fans, followers, connections and video subscribers, the show has brought the global eyecare community, representing more than 20 countries, together online.

In the months leading up to International Vision Expo West, show management has been actively engaged in social media; utilizing Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube to promote special offers and contests, post videos, answer questions and provide details about this week’s show. In addition, International Vision Expo continues to share information from the entire ophthalmic community on topics such as consumer outreach initiatives, product and technology advancements in the industry and business-building tips.

“Social media remains one of our key communication channels; allowing us to stay connected with the vision community year-round,” said Tom Loughran, vice president for Reed Exhibitions. “This past week, Neilson’s new Social Media Report reported that social networks and blogs reach nearly 80 percent of active U.S. Internet users. With numbers like that we know it’s becoming increasingly important for us to stay engaged.”  

On-site, International Vision Expo will post daily photo albums to its Facebook page and will be actively tweeting exhibitor specials (twitter handle #visionexpo) and news directly from the show floor. Show management staff will also be filming videos on a daily basis for its official YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/intlvisionexpo, which will feature perspectives from guests, special events, celebrity appearances and new products and technologies as they are unveiled on the exhibit hall floor.
